Overview
The Actions area is your quick-access hub for daily barn work. All the most common tasks are gathered in one place — optimised for speed, even when you are working directly with your animals.
Instead of navigating through multiple menus, you launch the most important functions directly from the Actions page.
The two main actions
When you open the Actions area you will see two large action cards:
Scan ear tag
Point your phone camera at an ear tag and Herdy recognises the number automatically. You can find an animal in seconds without having to type the number. After scanning, quick actions for the identified animal are available immediately.
If you use a Bluetooth RFID reader, it is even faster: Herdy captures the scan globally — on every page, without needing the camera. Read more in the Bluetooth Scanner section.
Start session
Start a batch session to complete the same task for multiple animals one after another. Ideal for days when you need to treat, weigh, or vaccinate many animals. You configure the task once, then simply scan or select each animal in turn.
Additional quick actions
Alongside the two main actions you will find quick links to the most common individual tasks:
- New TVD notification — Create a birth, arrival, departure, death, or slaughter notification for the TVD directly
- Record treatment — Document a medical treatment
- Record weight — Record the weight of an animal
- Health event — Log a health event (e.g. hoof trimming, castration)
Each quick link takes you directly to the relevant form — no detours.
Tip: The Actions area is especially useful on your phone. When you are working in the barn or out in the pasture, you always have the most important functions at your fingertips.
Built for everyday barn work
The Actions area was designed specifically for hands-on work with animals. The interface is intentionally simple:
- Large buttons — Easy to use even with gloves on
- Few taps — Every action is completed in just a few steps
- Camera access — The ear-tag scan function saves tedious manual entry
- Batch mode — Work through repetitive tasks efficiently instead of processing each animal separately
