Overview
Master Data is where you manage the core data of your farm. It is the foundation for everything else in Herdy, from the animal registry to TVD notifications and the treatment journal.
You normally enter master data once and update it only occasionally. Once it is in good shape, daily work gets noticeably faster because Herdy prefills many fields for you.
The seven areas
The overview page shows one card per area. The same entries appear in the tab strip above the page.
Locations
Your farm sites: farm, pasture, alp and barn. Locations are used when registering animals, for TVD notifications and for alpine summering. Details under Locations.
Partner Farms
The holdings you exchange animals with: other farms, slaughterhouses and alps. Once saved, they are available for selection in every notification. Details under Partner Farms.
Ear Tags
Your ear tag stock, built from your TVD orders and from your own entries. You see which tags are still free, which are reserved and which are already on an animal. Details under Ear Tags.
Medications
Your medication inventory with withdrawal periods, dosing, organic classification and stock. This is also where you produce the official inventory list. Details under Medications.
Feed
The products you buy, with category, certification and default unit. Details under Feed.
Vaccines
Your vaccines with default dose and notes. Details under Vaccines.
Groups
Your animal groups for pasture, treatment, breeding or summering. The card leads to the groups area, which has its own guide: Groups.
Who sees which card
As the farm owner you see all seven cards. For workers, family members and vets, visibility follows the module permissions you grant under Members:
- Locations and Partner Farms require access to «Animals».
- Ear Tags requires access to «TVD».
- Medications and Vaccines require access to «Health».
- Groups requires access to «Groups».
- Feed only appears when the Feeding module is enabled for your farm. Write to info@herdy.ch if you would like to use it.
Why well kept master data matters
- TVD notifications: with locations and partner farms in place, a notification takes seconds. Herdy fills in the TVD number and address for you.
- Treatment journal: with withdrawal periods on your medications, Herdy calculates the release dates for meat, milk and organs automatically.
- Vaccinations: the default dose from the vaccine catalogue is suggested when you record a vaccination.
- Feeding: you pick from the feed list when recording a purchase instead of describing the product again.
- Animal registry: groups let you filter the animal list in one step.
Tip: Set up your home location first, then the partner farms you trade with regularly. Everything else can be added the first time you need it.
