Pregnancy overview

The pregnancy overview is the home page of the breeding module. At a glance you can see which animals are pregnant, when the next births are due, and whether any animal is overdue. This lets you prepare in time for upcoming births.

Opening the overview

Navigate to Breeding. The overview is automatically shown as the first page (Overview tab).

Summary cards

At the top of the page you see three cards with the key figures:

  • Pregnant — The total number of all currently pregnant animals (confirmed and unconfirmed pregnancies)
  • Due soon — Animals whose expected birth date falls within the next 14 days
  • Overdue — Animals whose expected birth date has already passed

These figures give you an immediate overview of how much activity to expect in the barn and where you need to be especially attentive.

Tip: Check the Due soon card regularly. This lets you prepare a lambing area in time and have everything ready when the moment comes.

Pregnancy timeline

Below the summary cards you will find the chronological list of all ongoing pregnancies. The entries are sorted by expected birth date — the nearest birth is at the top.

What is displayed?

The overview shows both confirmed pregnancies and unconfirmed matings (where a pregnancy has not yet been confirmed). This gives you a complete picture of all potential births.

Information per entry

Each entry in the timeline shows:

  • Dam — Name and/or ear tag
  • Sire — Name and/or ear tag (if recorded)
  • Mating date — When the mating took place
  • Expected birth date — The date calculated by Herdy
  • Days remaining — How many days until the birth date, or how many days the animal is overdue
  • Quick actions — Buttons for common actions

Status indicators

Each entry carries a colour-coded status indicator that immediately signals where action is needed:

Unconfirmed

The mating has been recorded but the pregnancy has not yet been confirmed. The animal could be pregnant — a check is still pending.

Confirmed

The pregnancy has been confirmed, e.g. by ultrasound or clear signs. You can expect a birth.

Due soon

The expected birth date falls within the next 14 days. Prepare for the birth.

Overdue

The expected birth date has passed. This status is highlighted in red so you notice it immediately.

Tip: An overdue animal is not necessarily cause for immediate concern. Gestation naturally varies by a few days. However, observe the animal closely and consult a veterinarian if the delay is significant.

Quick actions

You can carry out common actions directly in the timeline without opening the mating record first:

  • Confirm pregnancy — When you have done the ultrasound or are certain the animal is pregnant
  • Record birth — Takes you directly to the birth form with details pre-filled
  • Open mating — Shows all details of the associated mating record

Typical workflow

Here is how you use the pregnancy overview in daily practice:

  1. In the morning you check the overview on your phone
  2. Animals with Due soon status receive special attention
  3. Animals with Overdue status are monitored particularly closely
  4. When a birth occurs, tap Record birth and document everything on the spot
  5. After an ultrasound session, update the statuses: Confirm for pregnant animals, Unsuccessful for empty animals

Tip: The pregnancy overview is ideal for giving your veterinarian a quick rundown of upcoming births on their next visit. Just show them your phone.
