Overview
In the medication inventory you manage all veterinary medicines present on your farm. Each medication is maintained with withdrawal periods, standard dosage, and current stock level. With every treatment, the stock is automatically adjusted.
Adding a new medication
How to add a medication to your inventory:
- Go to Health > Medications
- Tap New medication
- Fill in the following fields:
Basic information
- Trade name -- The product name as shown on the packaging. For example: "Cydectin Pour-On", "Vecoxan", "Alamycin LA".
- Active ingredient -- The active substance in the medication. For example: "Moxidectin", "Diclazuril", "Oxytetracycline".
- Unit -- In which unit is the medication dosed? Options are:
- ml (millilitres)
- g (grams)
- Tablets
- Boluses
- Pieces
Withdrawal periods
- Withdrawal period meat (days) -- How many days after the last application must you wait before the animal may be slaughtered? You will find this information on the package insert or can obtain it from your veterinarian.
- Withdrawal period milk (days) -- How many days must you wait before the milk may be used again?
Additional fields
- Standard dosage -- The usual dosage per animal. This value is used as a suggestion when recording treatments.
- Notes -- Free text field for additional information, e.g. storage instructions, method of application (pour-on, oral, injection), or special precautions.
- Tap Save
Tip: Store the withdrawal periods carefully. Herdy uses these values to automatically calculate the clearance dates for every treatment. Incorrect periods can lead to residue problems.
Managing stock levels
Herdy manages the stock level of each medication through transactions. There are four types of transaction:
Receipt (delivery)
When you receive new medications:
- Open the relevant medication
- Tap Add transaction
- Select Receipt
- Enter the quantity
- Enter the supplier (e.g. name of the veterinary practice)
- Tap Save
Treatment (automatic)
When you record a treatment and select a medication, the quantity used is automatically deducted from the stock level. You do not need to do anything additional.
Disposal
When a medication has expired or must be disposed of:
- Open the relevant medication
- Tap Add transaction
- Select Disposal
- Enter the quantity disposed of
- Tap Save
Correction
If the displayed stock level does not match the actual stock level:
- Open the relevant medication
- Tap Add transaction
- Select Correction
- Enter the difference quantity (positive for increase, negative for reduction)
- Tap Save
Stock overview
The medication list shows you the current status for each medication:
- Stock level -- The currently available quantity
- Negative stock -- If more has been used than booked in, Herdy displays a warning. In this case, check whether any receipts are missing.
- Low stock -- Herdy alerts you when a medication is about to run out
- Last receipt -- When the last delivery was recorded
Tip: Book in new medications as soon as you receive them. This ensures your digital stock always matches the actual stock in the medication cabinet.
Archiving a medication
When you no longer use a medication -- for example because it has been replaced by another product -- you can archive it:
- Open the relevant medication
- Tap Archive
- Confirm the archiving
Archived medications disappear from the active list, but remain in all existing treatment entries. You can reactivate archived medications if needed.
Tip: Archive medications rather than deleting them. This keeps your treatment journal complete and consistent -- even for past treatments.
