First: when Barto is the better choice.
If you run a pure dairy operation, take Barto. Barto calculates the Suisse-Bilanz, keeps a field calendar and crop rotation, is federally recognised for the nutrient balance, and exchanges data directly with several cantons. Herdy has none of that, and we are not building it.
If your main concern is milk yield or breeding values, the same applies. Neither is built in Herdy, and neither is on the plan.
Barto is not a bad product, and whoever bought it did nothing wrong. This page is not about what Barto gets wrong. It is about the animals it was not made for.
Herdy is the better choice when sheep or goats make up a substantial part of your farm, on their own or alongside cattle. For those animals Herdy files the report itself instead of merely preparing it for you.

Everything both of them can do, cattle reports, treatment journal, exercise log, herd register, is not listed here. It would be a long list that says nothing.

Barto for the crops, Herdy for all your animals.
For a farm with forty-five suckler cows and a hundred and ten sheep this is often the most sensible answer: you keep Barto for the crops and run the whole livestock side in Herdy, cattle and sheep side by side in the same herd.
