I have done this on paper for thirty years. Why should I switch?

Your method is not the problem, the rules changed. Sheep and goats have only had to be registered individually in the TVD since 2020, the footrot programme has been running since 2024, and since 2024 the Normalstoss for Sömmerung is calculated directly from TVD data. Herdy does not take your list away. It just stops you typing it up twice.

Is Herdy a herd management software?

Accepted Answer

Yes. «Herd management» is the usual term for what Herdy does: keeping animal inventory, health, breeding and feeding in one place. Two things set it apart from most programs in that category. Herdy reports directly to the TVD, without you having to sign in to agate.ch as well. And it is built for the mixed farm: sheep, goats, cattle and pigs live in the same herd, with one shared treatment journal and a single Agate login.

I am not a computer person. Can I manage this?

If you can use WhatsApp and agate.ch, you can use Herdy. Large controls, few fields per screen, no manual. And if you get stuck, call, you speak with the person who builds Herdy.

Question 4

Can several people on the farm work with it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You invite further people and set rights per member, who may record, who may submit notifications, who may only read. That way the office no longer depends on one person alone.

Question 5

I have an Excel sheet that works. What can Herdy do that Excel cannot?

Accepted Answer

Your Excel is probably tidier than much of what we see, keep it and import it. Three things a spreadsheet structurally cannot do: submit to the TVD, calculate a withdrawal period separately for meat and milk, and stop a departure while an animal is still blocked.

I have sheep, goats and a few cattle. Does that work in one farm?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and that is the reason Herdy exists. Four species in one farm, under one Agate access, with one treatment journal and one set of reports. Modules that concern only one species appear accordingly. Instead of three programmes you operate one.

Question 7

Do I have to enter my 200 animals by hand?

Accepted Answer

No. Your herd is already in the animal movement database. Herdy fetches it, with ear tag numbers, sex and dates of birth. Whatever is not in the TVD comes across by CSV from your Excel. If it gets stuck, we do it together.

Question 8

Does Herdy record milk yield or breeding values?

Accepted Answer

No. Neither is built, and we have nothing that merely looks similar. If that is your main concern, Herdy is not the right programme for you today, we would rather say so here than after your first subscription.

Question 9

Do I need a reader for the ear tags?

Accepted Answer

No. You can type the number in, capture it with the camera, or use a Bluetooth reader. One note, because it is often told differently: no phone reads an RFID ear tag on its own. That takes a reader, and Herdy works with the common devices.

Question 10

Is Herdy available in French and Italian?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The app and the website are available in German, French, Italian and English, not just the interface, the content too. You switch languages at the top right.

How do I install Herdy as an app?

Accepted Answer

On Android, open Herdy in Google Chrome and select Install app or Add to Home screen from the three-dot menu. On iPhone and iPad, open Herdy in Safari, select Share, then Add to Home Screen. On a computer, use the icon in Chrome's address bar or select Install page as app. Find the detailed guide under Getting started in the documentation.

Does Herdy work in the barn without signal?

Accepted Answer

No. Herdy needs an internet connection to record, and so does scanning an ear tag. Herdy installs straight onto your home screen without an app store, but you cannot make entries without signal today. This is the point where we are behind a handheld reader, and we would rather write it here than have you find out in the barn.

Do I still have to log in to Agate after a notification?

For birth, arrival, departure and death for cattle and sheep, and for the collective Sömmerung notification: no. For goat arrivals and for cancelling sheep and goat notifications: yes, the TVD has deactivated those two at the interface.

Question 14

Does Herdy replace agate.ch?

Accepted Answer

No, and that is not the goal either. Agate is the federal portal and it stays that way. Herdy is the route to it without typing the note from the barn a second time, and without the same entry additionally having to be written into the treatment journal, the exercise journal and the inventory record.

Question 15

What deadlines apply to the notifications?

Accepted Answer

Births within 30 days; arrivals, departures and deaths within 3 working days. For every open event Herdy shows how much time is left, and sends an email before it gets tight. There are no push notifications. Herdy writes emails.

Question 16

What happens if the TVD rejects a notification?

Accepted Answer

You see the TVD's reason in plain language on the animal, not just an error number. You correct the entry and send the same notification again, you do not record anything twice.

What changes with AGOV on 31 October 2026?

Accepted Answer

Your Agate login. All Agate users must move from CH-LOGIN to AGOV by then. Your TVD number and your previous notifications stay unchanged. How the switch works is set out step by step on our AGOV page, with a checklist to print.

Question 18

CHF 299 for an app, why?

Accepted Answer

Because it is not the app you are buying. On a mountain farm with 200 animals, several tens of thousands of francs in direct payments depend every year on the paperwork being right. The plan is a fraction of a percent of that. If that calculation means nothing to you because you draw no direct payments, Herdy is probably too expensive for you, that is an honest answer too.

What is not included in the cheapest plan?

Nothing. Every feature is included in every plan. The plan depends solely on the number of animals. That is why you will find no tick-box table here, every row would be identical.

Question 20

Do I need a credit card for the trial?

Accepted Answer

No. You open an account, create your farm and try it for seven days. No payment method is stored, and nothing continues automatically after seven days.

Question 21

How do I cancel?

Accepted Answer

On your farm’s billing page or by email to info@inoo.ch, at any time and effective at the end of the current period. During the trial no invoice is raised, and you can undo the cancellation there as well. Otherwise the subscription renews automatically for another year. We write to you before the renewal.

We are a corporation and need an invoice, not a credit card.

That works. Request a quote through the contact form, you get a quote and a QR invoice you can table at the assembly and pay through the treasury.

Question 23

Will you still be here in five years?

Accepted Answer

That is a fair question, and we are not bluffing: Herdy has been in use since April 2026 and is built by a small Swiss company. What we can show is work, twelve releases in ten months, each dated in the changelog, in four languages. What we can guarantee you is independence: you export everything as CSV and PDF at any time, and your livestock is in the TVD anyway. Your farm's history does not depend on our survival.

Where is my data stored?

In a data centre in Zurich. Not in Frankfurt, not in Ireland, not in the US. Inoo GmbH is a Swiss company with its seat in Altstätten SG; contracts run under Swiss law.

Question 25

What does Herdy send to the TVD, and what else, to whom?

Accepted Answer

Only what you send yourself goes to the TVD, and you see beforehand what it contains. Weights, notes, feeding, breeding data and your reports stay in Herdy. There is no sharing with associations, buyers or advertising partners.

Question 26

Do our Bestösser need Herdy as well?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no two-sided reconciliation between the alp and the home farm today, it is not built. Your lists per Bestösser, your accompanying documents and your alp accounting work fully, regardless of what your Bestösser use.

Question 27

Our alp staff changes every year. Do we start from scratch each time?

Accepted Answer

No. You issue access per person with their own rights. When the herder changes, the access changes, the season, the animals and the records stay with the alp.
