Overview
Shearing is one of the big annual jobs on a sheep and goat farm. In Herdy you record a shearing session as one entry: at the top the details of the day, underneath all animals with their status. That way you still have the record years later of when shearing took place and which animals were left out.

Note: The Shearing entry only appears if your herd contains sheep or goats. The animal list in the form likewise shows sheep and goats only.
Recording a shearing session
- Go to Care & Welfare > Shearing
- Tap New shearing session
- Fill in the upper block:
- Date, today is preset
- Shearer, free text, for example the name of the shearing contractor
- Location, a choice from your locations, optional
- Note, for example about the weather or the wool quality
- Select the animals underneath

Recording animals
Below the details of the day sits the animal list. The search field, the species buttons and Select all help you narrow it down. As soon as an animal is ticked, two buttons appear next to it:
- Sheared is preset. Underneath, a Findings field appears in which you can voluntarily record what was noticed during shearing, for example a hoof abnormality or a patch of skin.
- Skipped marks animals that were not sheared. Here a Reason is mandatory, for example "pregnant", "lame" or "sick". Without a reason the shearing session cannot be saved.

Above the list a running summary is shown, for example "2 selected, 1 sheared, 1 skipped".
Finally you tap Save shearing session. All animals are stored together as one shearing session.
Viewing and deleting shearing sessions
The overview lists all shearing sessions with date, shearer and location as well as the counters "sheared" and "skipped". A click opens the detail page with all animals, their status and the recorded reasons and findings.
At the very bottom of the detail page sits Delete shearing session. This removes all entries of that day. The action cannot be undone. A shearing session cannot be edited afterwards. If something is wrong, delete it and record it again.
On the welfare dashboard
The Sheared this year card on the care overview shows what share of your sheep and goats has been sheared in the current year, for example "84 %, 57 of 68 animals". A click leads back to the list of shearing sessions.
Record for the inspection
For Bio Suisse and IP-Suisse, regular shearing is part of the animal welfare requirements. The recorded shearing sessions document the date, the person responsible, the location and the animals. Using Print / PDF on the care overview you hand the inspection the metric; it gets the details from the detail page if needed.
