Overview

The herd overview is your statistics dashboard. On a single page you can see the most important key figures and charts for your herd. This lets you immediately see how your herd is composed and how it is developing.

You reach the herd overview via Reports > Herd Overview.

Summary cards

At the top you will find four cards with the central key figures:

  • Total animals — The total number of all animals in your herd
  • Sheep — Number of sheep
  • Goats — Number of goats
  • Active animals — Number of animals with the status "active" (excluding already departed or deceased animals)

These figures give you an immediate overview of the size and composition of your herd.

Tip: When the period comparison is enabled (see below), the cards also show the change compared to the previous period — for example "+3" or "-2".

Charts

Below the summary cards you will find several charts that visualise your herd data:

Breed distribution

A chart showing which breeds are represented in your herd and in what proportion. Particularly useful if you keep several breeds and want to track their share.

Age distribution

Shows the age structure of your herd in five groups:

  • Under 6 months — Lambs and kids
  • 6 to 12 months — Young animals
  • 1 to 2 years — Young sheep and young goats
  • 2 to 4 years — Animals in their prime
  • Over 4 years — Older animals

This lets you see at a glance whether your herd is well-balanced or whether certain age groups predominate.

Species distribution

Shows the ratio of sheep to goats in your herd. Useful if you keep both species.

Births and departures

A trend chart over the last 12 months showing births and departures (deaths, sales, slaughter) side by side. This lets you identify seasonal patterns and the overall development of your herd.

Tip: A healthy herd operation has more births than departures over the course of the year. If departures predominate, it is worth investigating the causes more closely.

Selecting a time period

Above the charts you can set the time period the analysis covers:

  • This month — Shows only the data for the current month
  • This year — Shows data from 1 January of the current year
  • Custom — Set your own start and end date

All cards and charts adjust automatically depending on the selected period.

Period comparison

To identify trends, you can enable the comparison with the previous period:

  1. Select the desired time period (e.g. This Year)
  2. Enable the vs. previous period toggle
  3. Herdy now shows the current values alongside the values from the preceding period

If, for example, you have selected This Year and enable the comparison, you see the figures for the current year compared to the previous year. This immediately shows you whether your herd is growing, stagnating, or shrinking.

Exporting reports

You can export the entire herd overview:

  1. Set the desired time period
  2. Tap Export
  3. Choose the format:
    • PDF — A clear document with all cards and charts. At the end it shows the date "Exported on", so you always know when the report was created.
    • CSV — All figures as tabular data for further processing in Excel or other applications.

Tip: Export the herd overview as a PDF at the end of the year. This gives you a neat summary for your farm archive and lets you track the development of your herd over the years.
