Every animal in Herdy can be assigned to a location. That way you always see where an animal is, and the data is ready when you file a notification with the livestock traffic database.
Locations are created and edited in one single place, under Master Data > Locations. Everything about location types, TVD number, home location and archiving is covered under Locations. This section only describes what happens on the animal.
Prerequisite
Record your locations before you start entering animals. While doing so, mark one location as the home location. It is then suggested automatically when you record a new animal, and marked (Home farm) in the picker.
Giving a new animal a location
In the entry form, choose the location in the Location & lineage section. If you have set a home location, it is already filled in and you need to do nothing.
Changing an animal's location
- Open the animal profile.
- Tap Edit at the top right.
- Change the location in the Location & lineage section.
- Tap Save changes.
The change appears on the animal's History tab as a location change, with its date. You do not have to record anything separately.
Where else the location shows up
- On the Details tab of the animal profile, under Location & lineage
- In the Location column of the CSV and PDF export of the animal list
- On groups of type Pasture, which can carry a location of their own. In the group overview it then appears below the group name
Why the location matters
- TVD notifications: notifications to the livestock traffic database need the TVD number of the location concerned. For alpine summering in particular, the alp location with its own TVD number is required. See Alpine summering.
- Traceability: in an outbreak, the authorities must be able to tell quickly which animals stand at which location.
- Overview: the location page shows how many animals are at a location.
Note: A location's TVD number can no longer be changed once it has been synchronised with the TVD. Check it before you reconcile animals. It consists of seven digits, the last of which is the check digit.
