Every summering season has its own page. It is the workplace for the whole alpine summer and is reached via Summer pasture > Seasons.
Status and key figures
A season runs through the statuses Planned, Active, Returning and Completed. Below them are the key figures Total animals, On the alp, Returned and Losses.
The animal list shows two things per animal:
- the season status: On the alp, Missing, Returned, Lost, Died, Departed
- the TVD submission status: Reported to TVD, TVD pending, TVD error
Stocking planner
On the season page Herdy converts your alpine period into normal stocking units (NST) and shows the Estimated alpine grazing payment for the home farm:
- To date: the normal stocking units accrued so far.
- Forecast: the value up to the planned return date. Without a return date the forecast stays empty.
- What-if: return date: a date to try out. It changes only the preview, not the season and not the TVD.
- Why does this value result? opens the calculation per animal with period, days, factor and data quality.
If details are missing, Herdy shows a range rather than an invented single value. For adult sheep and goats the factor depends on whether the animal is milked on this alp. Under Clarify usage you record that per animal; the entry applies to this alpine stay only and does not change the master data.
With Export planning snapshot you save the current state unchangeably as PDF or CSV.
The stocking planner is a planning aid, not a TVD notification and not a cantonal decision. Herdy counts the ascent day and not the return day, at most 180 days per animal. The official assessment may differ.
Continue submission
The notifications of a batch only run while the browser is open. If processing was interrupted, the season page shows a note and the button Continue submission. One click is enough and Herdy picks up the open notifications.
Add animals (late additions)
If animals go up later, click Add animals. You select the animals and set a separate departure date, which must not be before the season start. A departure notification with that date is created for each animal.
Report loss
If an animal dies on the alp, disappears or is sold from the alp, record it via Report loss. Herdy deliberately creates no TVD notification and tells you in the dialog who files instead:

If an animal returns home early, do not use the loss report but the alp descent.
Missing animals stay open cases
An animal reported as Lost keeps the season open. Both routes stay possible:
- If it turns up again, report it back via the alp descent.
- If it is finally gone, choose Written off (close the case) in the loss dialog. The animal is written off and its stay ends so the season can complete. There is no TVD notification for this either.
Accompanying document
For the transport day you create the accompanying document from the season. It is available only on the departure day and the day before, because the TVD accepts a transport date of today or tomorrow only.
- The document from the season exists for sheep. If goats are in the season, Herdy points out that the TVD no longer issues an accompanying document for goats; the document is created for the sheep only.
- If animals on the document are still inside a withdrawal period according to the treatment journal, Herdy warns before the health declaration and lists the affected animals with the date they are cleared. The confirmation declares every animal unmedicated. Check the list and fall back to the paper form if in doubt. See Withdrawal periods.
- For cattle you create the accompanying document individually from the animal profile.
Edit or cancel the season
The season menu lets you edit the season (destination, dates, contact, notes).
Cancel season deletes the season and cancels notifications not yet submitted. This works only while nothing has been submitted to the TVD and no return or loss has been recorded. After that the alp descent is the right route.
