The alp descent is the home farm's return notification: an arrival notification is created for every animal that comes back.
How to report the return
- Open the season and click Start alp descent.
- Select the animals: individually, via search, with Select all or by scanning the ear tags.
- Set the Return date.
- Click Submit alp descent and confirm.
If the flock comes back in stages, simply do several rounds. The season keeps count. A missing animal that reappears is also reported back here.
When an animal cannot be selected
Herdy blocks animals and states the reason directly in the list:
- Already home according to the TVD. The return was filed outside Herdy. Confirm it via the close-out card on the season page.
- Departure to the alp is after the return date. The animal went up later than the return you want to file. Pick a later return date.
After submitting
Herdy shows per animal what happened and distinguishes honestly between two cases:
- Submission pending: not all notifications could be transmitted, often because the Agate connection expired. The animals are recorded locally as returned and Herdy retries automatically. With Retry all you trigger it yourself.
- Rejected by TVD: the TVD rejected the notification on its content. These notifications are not retried automatically. The reason is shown next to the animal.
Goats: the arrival notification runs through the Agate portal. The TVD switched the goat arrival notification off in the interface. Herdy still tries it. If it fails, file the return once in the Agate portal and confirm it here with Reported in the Agate portal so the season closes cleanly.
Review returns and close the season
As soon as something needs clarifying, the card Review returns and close the season appears on the season page. It says how many animals are still recorded as «on the alp» and compares your season with the TVD stock from the last sync.
The card shows four figures: Season animals, Open locally, Home confirmed and Needs review. Herdy also states how fresh the TVD sync is. If it is incomplete or failed, Herdy guesses nothing and asks you to sync first.
Herdy names the discrepancies concretely:
- Contradiction between Herdy and the TVD: the case needs a review.
- Missing animal still open: the season stays open until the case is resolved.
- TVD evidence not sufficient: the state cannot be determined from the available data.
- Return recorded locally without a later TVD sync: confirmation from the TVD is still outstanding.
Close a return locally
If an animal's return was filed outside Herdy and the TVD confirms the animal back home, Herdy offers Close locally. You confirm the actual return date and Herdy only updates the season. No new TVD notification is created or sent.
Automatic completion
Once every animal is accounted for, the season completes automatically. Open notifications stay visible afterwards and can still be resolved.
Reminder for an overdue return
If the expected return date has passed and animals are still on the alp, Herdy points this out on the season page, on the dashboard card and with a one-off notification.
