Navigation & structure

How to find your way around Herdy: tabs, sidebar, main areas, and the home screen at a glance.

At a glance

Herdy is designed so that the most important functions are always just a few taps away. The app automatically adapts to your device: on your phone you navigate via tabs at the bottom of the screen, on a computer via a sidebar on the left.

At the bottom of the screen you see five tabs:

  1. Animals -- Your animal list with search and filters
  2. Actions -- TVD notifications, import, ear tags, and TVD settings
  3. Groups -- Manage animal groups (e.g. breeding, pasture, treatment)
  4. Reports -- Herd overview, movement history, and exports
  5. Settings -- Account settings, team members, and subscription

Team members with restricted roles (e.g. family, employee, vet) see additional or different tabs depending on their permissions -- for example Health or Breeding instead of groups or reports.

Tip: If you have overdue TVD notifications, the Actions tab shows a red counter. This way you never miss a deadline.

On a computer you see a sidebar on the left side. This shows all areas arranged in a hierarchy:

Animals (herd management)

  • Animals -- Animal list, animal profiles, search, and filters
  • Actions -- TVD notifications, notification log, import, ear tags, and TVD settings
  • Reports -- Movement history and TVD notification log

Health

  • Health -- Overview with active withdrawal periods and upcoming vaccinations
  • Treatments -- Treatment journal with medications and withdrawal periods

Breeding & production

  • Overview -- Pregnancy overview with due-date countdown
  • Matings -- Record and track matings
  • Births -- Document births with litter size and lamb details
  • Pedigree -- Ancestry and family relationships
  • Weight -- Weight development and daily gains
  • Tail lengths -- Record and evaluate tail-length measurements

Master data

  • Locations -- Manage your farm locations (barn, pasture, alp)
  • Partner farms -- Save frequent trading partners and their TVD numbers
  • Ear tags -- Manage ear-tag orders and stock
  • Medications -- Manage the medication library
  • Vaccines -- Manage the vaccine library
  • Groups -- Create and manage animal groups (e.g. breeding, pasture, treatment)

Settings

  • Settings -- Account and profile options
  • Members -- Invite and manage team members

The home screen (dashboard)

When you sign in, the first thing you see is the dashboard. It gives you a quick overview of the current state of your herd:

  • Herd -- Number of active animals, broken down by species (sheep, goats, cattle)
  • Withdrawal periods -- Number of active withdrawal periods from treatments
  • Pregnancy -- Number of animals that are due to lamb soon or already overdue
  • TVD notifications -- Number of pending or overdue notifications to the TVD

This way you can see at a glance where action is needed.

Switching between accounts

In Herdy you can have a personal account and team accounts. This is useful when, for example, you:

  • Manage your own farm alone (personal account)
  • Run a shared farm with family members (team account)

To switch between accounts:

  1. Click your profile picture or name at the top.
  2. Under Your accounts you see all available accounts.
  3. Select the desired account.

The app immediately switches to the selected account, and you see that account's animals and data.

Tip: On your phone you access the account switcher via the profile menu in the top right. On a computer it appears in the sidebar.

Quick actions

The Actions area gives you quick access to common tasks:

  • Scan ear tag -- Scan an ear tag with your phone camera to quickly look up an animal.
  • New TVD notification -- Create a birth, arrival, or departure notification directly.
  • Record treatment -- Document a treatment.
  • Record weight -- Record a weight.
  • Start session -- Work through a task (e.g. treatment or weighing) for multiple animals in one go.

Tip: The ear-tag scan function is particularly handy in the barn. Simply hold the camera up to the ear tag and Herdy finds the animal automatically.

Finding help

If you ever get stuck, you can find this documentation at any time via the Documentation area in the app. Each section explains one area of Herdy step by step.
